The organizing committee of Biosystems Engineering 2020 conference is delighted to announce that Dr. Jorge Ferreira from University of Boras, Sweden has agreed to deliver a keynote speech at the BSE 2020. His speech will concentrate on biorefining of low-value streams and residuals with edible filamentos fungi.
Dr. Jorge Ferreira has obtained a BSc degree in Applied Biology, a MSc in Bioengineering at the University of Minho in Portugal, and a PhD degree in Resource Recovery with specialization in biotechnology at the University of BorĂ¥s. His research career has been devoted to the development of environmentally friendly processes for valorization of wastes and industrial side-streams. He has acquired extensive experience in the use of edible filamentous fungi for production of various value-added products including bioethanol, fungal biomass for feed, chitin and chitosan, and fungal pigments. He has also been devoted to the establishment and strengthening of process development links between the academia and the industrial sector. As a result of his passion for multidisciplinary approaches, his research expertise has more recently branched out to anaerobic digestion, recycling of bioplastics and biocomposites, and production of new biodegradable polymers.
